INTRODUCING

Welcome to International Allyship Day!

SAVE THE DATE. IT HAPPENS ON 8/8.

August 8th is a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting the power of allyship across the globe. On this special day, we come together to recognize the importance of standing up for one another, fostering inclusivity, and building bridges of support and understanding.

What is Allyship?

RECOGNIZE. UPLIFT. ADVOCATE.

Allyship is the act of actively supporting and advocating for individuals or communities who face systemic oppression or discrimination. It means recognizing our own privilege and using it to uplift others, amplifying their voices, and fighting for their rights. Allyship is about being a friend, an advocate, and a source of solidarity.

International Allyship Day is a time for people from all walks of life to come together and celebrate the incredible strength that lies in unity. It is a day to embrace diversity, celebrate differences, and foster a sense of belonging for everyone!

Allyship Events + Activities

LEARN. GROW. UNDERSTAND.

Throughout the day, you’ll find a myriad of events and activities aimed at fostering allyship. From educational workshops and panel discussions to cultural celebrations and community gatherings, there is something for everyone to engage in. These events provide opportunities to learn, grow, and deepen our understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities around the world.

We believe ...

... that allyship knows no boundaries. Regardless of your background, nationality, or identity, you have the power to make a difference. Together, we can create a world where every individual is valued, respected, and given equal opportunities to thrive.

Allyship

starts with a

conversation

Allyship

starts with a

conversation

TAKE ACTION.

Having conversations with someone about becoming a better ally can be challenging, but it can also be an important step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace. Here are a few tips for how to approach these conversations:

Start with empathy

Before you begin the conversation, try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes and approach the conversation with empathy. Recognize that everyone has different experiences and may be at different stages in their allyship journey.

Be specific

Provide specific examples of actions that you believe would be supportive or allyship behaviors. Share personal experiences or stories that demonstrate the impact of allyship.

Use “I” statements

When giving feedback, use “I” statements instead of “you” statements. This can help to make the conversation less confrontational and more productive. For example, instead of saying “You need to do better at being an ally,” try saying “I feel more supported when I see colleagues taking action to support marginalized groups.”

Be open to feedback

It’s important to remember that becoming a better ally is a journey, and everyone makes mistakes along the way. Be open to receiving feedback and constructive criticism in return. This can help to foster a culture of learning and growth.

End on a positive note

Remember to end the conversation on a positive note. Acknowledge the other person’s efforts and commitment to allyship, and express your gratitude for their willingness to engage in the conversation.

Ultimately, having conversations about allyship can be uncomfortable, but it’s an important step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace for everyone.
